I am looking at blackberry contracts, and the one I want comes with 500MB monthly internet allowance. How much is this? I will mostly be just using it for Facebook and BBM. It comes with wifi as well, so could I just use this instead?

not much these days as pages have video and flash advertisements so ive been to pages that are 20 megs just because of advertising. these days it could be about 3 MB average per page i guess but thats using a p.c browser

That’s plenty for your type of use…and yes you can use wifi instead when it’s available. This is what I do with my blackberry curve, especially streaming audio or video which can use as much as 100mb per hour, so be careful about that.
